If you really want to be a consultant (no matter what kind of fields) in
such companies like McKinsey, BCG, you should have a degree in MBA (top
schools) or PhD (any fields) instead of FE or FM.
In those companies, if they need a professional in specific fields, they
will hire experienced people or PhD. Believe me, if you finish
any FE or FM degree, you still far from of being a professional in quant.
Besides, those consulting firms may only look for candidates with MBA,
if you dont have MBA, you probabily wont have any chance to get the interview.

If you want to be a financial consultant in private banking fields, your
connection and background would be much more important than degrees.

As far as I know, most students graduated from FE or FM program, they will
get jobs in quant-related departments (derivatives, fixed income) responsible
for pricing models or quantitative researchs. Students with programming
experience are the hottest in this field. However, getting what kind of jobs
would highly depend on the student's background. There are still some
students get jobs in general finance fields.

I think you have to learn more about what are those consulting firms doing
and what you would learn if you pursue a degree in FE/FM.
